Demolition

Residential, commercial, and industrial - safely, on programme, with zero surprises.

Whether you are clearing a residential site for subdivision, demolishing a commercial structure, or managing a complex industrial project, Rewired Group's demolition team brings the experience, equipment, and project management to do it right.

Our Demolition Director, John Wickens, has spent 20 years in construction and demolition - including managing Wellington's Ward Demolition branch. His project history includes a 12-storey cut-and-crane in Wellington CBD, a two-year asbestos and demolition programme at Longburn Freezing Works, and the three-year Te Matapihi / Wellington Library project. That same rigour runs every project we take on.

What we deliver

  • Full structural demolition - residential, commercial, and industrial
  • Concrete cutting, breaking, and crushing
  • Material salvage and recycling
  • Partial demolition and internal soft-strip
  • Site clearance and debris removal
  • Project management from consent through to final site handover

Important TIP

If your building was constructed before 2000, a WorkSafe NZ-required asbestos survey must be completed before any demolition work begins. Starting demolition without a survey in place can result in a WorkSafe investigation and a mandatory project shutdown.

Rewired Group can put you in contact with an independent asbestos testing provider as part of your demolition project - protecting your consent timeline and preventing delays.

Asbestos Removal

Class A and Class B licensed - the highest level of asbestos removal certification available in New Zealand.

Working in partnership with AMR Team, Rewired Group can facilitate both Class A and Class B asbestos removal - covering the full range of asbestos types from bonded, non-friable materials through to the highest-risk friable category.

Class A certification authorises the removal of friable asbestos: loose, damaged, or deteriorated materials that have the potential to release airborne fibres. It is the highest level of asbestos removal authorisation issued by WorkSafe New Zealand, and requires a higher standard of training, equipment, and site management to maintain.

Our asbestos work is delivered in partnership with AMR Team - one of Wellington's most established asbestos operators, with six years of trading in the region. Ryan Franklin leads the AMR Team operation and brings extensive experience across a wide range of removal projects, including some of Wellington's most complex sites. Asbestos Supervisor Jaiden Fry-Raukawa has completed more than 50 shrinkwrap roof removals without incident.

What we deliver

  • Facilitated Class A asbestos removal - highest-risk category
  • Pre-demolition and pre-refurbishment asbestos surveys
  • Certified disposal through approved facilities
  • Contaminated soil and mould remediation
  • Facilitated Class B (non-friable) asbestos removal
  • Safe containment, encapsulation, and clearance procedures
  • Shrinkwrap roof removal and weather protection
  • Clearance certificates and full project documentation

Important TIP

WorkSafe NZ regulations require a management survey before any refurbishment work, and a demolition survey before any demolition of a building constructed before 2000. These are legal obligations, not optional steps.

Failing to survey before work begins can result in a WorkSafe NZ investigation, a mandatory project shutdown, and significant cost overruns to your development programme.

Rewired Group can schedule surveying as part of a combined demolition or earthworks scope - keeping your consent timeline intact and your programme moving.

Earthworks

Site preparation, excavation, and subdivision works - backed by 15 years of Wellington earthworks experience.

Rewired Group's earthworks director Kayne McDonald has spent 15 years in civil excavation, building his own business from a one-machine operation into a multi-plant, multi-truck company with deep knowledge of Wellington's terrain.

Wellington's topography is not forgiving. Steep slopes, variable ground conditions, tight urban access, and proximity to existing infrastructure require a team that has solved these challenges before. Kayne and his team have - across 15 years of Wellington sites.

What we deliver

  • Bulk earthworks and site preparation
  • Subdivision earthworks
  • Drainage and stormwater preparation
  • Slope management and stabilisation
  • Excavation and foundation preparation
  • Retaining wall construction
  • Cartage and spoil removal

Wellington terrain demands experience

Wellington's steep slopes and variable ground conditions add complexity that contractors without local experience are not prepared for. Programme timelines and cost estimates need to reflect what Wellington sites actually take - not what similar jobs take on flat ground elsewhere.

Our team has 15 years of Wellington-specific earthworks history. When we price your project, we are pricing based on what we know about your terrain - not guessing.
